Welcome to Denver à la mode

Mile High fashion, beauty, family & trends. Sweet!

Things have really changed in the past few years. Money is tighter than ever. Maybe you’ve left your club-hopping life behind for diapers and soccer games. Those skinny jeans are gathering dust in the back of your closet. And that lipstick you’ve been using since college? Sister, we’ve been there.

But, you know what? Even if we’re keeping a closer look on our spending habits, even if we’re saving for our kid’s tuition instead of that new pair of Pradas, even if we’ve gained — ahem — a few pounds, hell, even if we’re scraping our makeup out of a tube with a Q-Tip, we still deserve an extra dose of style in our lives.
Denver à la mode

That’s why I started Denver à la mode. I lost my fashion editor job at the Rocky Mountain News earlier this year when the newspaper folded after nearly 150 years of business. People kept asking me what I wanted to do next, what my dream job was. But the truth is, I was doing it. So, why stop?

Denver à la mode is a place to share the latest fashion tips and trends, beauty treatments and bargain shopping advice. We’ll focus on local businesses and what people are wearing where we live. I’m the mother of two little girls, so I also want it to be a source for cool kid finds, stores, styles and entertainment. Oh, and, because we know how much you all love free stuff, we’ll be giving away something stylish each week.

If you looked forward to the Rocky’s Thursday Spotlight section, I hope you’ll turn to us for the same credible content. I’m working with Joe Mahoney, a photographer and assistant multimedia editor at the Rocky, to deliver the same stunning images and video you came to expect from us. And, if you miss the Style Matters gals, rest assured. You’ll find them here, too.

This site, along with The Sundae Scoop, a free weekly e-letter, is all about the people, products, stores and happenings that make the Mile High City stylish. I hope you come to crave the dishes we’ll be serving and let me know your thoughts, ideas, tips and suggestions. Enjoy!

Hi! I am so glad you have found a way to continue your passion. I would love to subscribe, it makes it even more fun knowing the author. I am not much about fashion and style (let me know if you need some bad advice LOL), but I am always looking for good recipes, things to do with kids, and shopping at thrift stores. I can’t for the life of me think of an ARC by Broadway and Alameda, but I will look when I go workout at Curves tommorrow. By the way, Rachael at Curves would love to build the membership, maybe you could interview her? Having new “curves” from their diet and exercise program has certainly helped me feel more like fitting into something with fashion. God Bless you!
