Designer ruby slippers celebrate ‘Wizard of Oz’ at 70

The Wizard of Oz premiered 70 years ago Aug. 15, and I think I’ll watch it with my munchkins Saturday night to celebrate.

There’s just something about those fabulous shimmering ruby slippers that has kept me captivated since I first saw the movie as a young girl. Maybe I’ll even organize a viewing of The Dark Side of Oz — where you play Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon as you watch the movie with the volume turned down. I know — I’m not in college anymore.

But back to those glorious ruby slippers. I just wrote a blog item for StyleList.com on an exhibit going on in London that features Swarovski-encrusted red shoes by current designers inspired by Dorothy’s famous footwear. The shoes are breath-taking.

But I’m also in love with the sketches the designers created for the CRYSTALLIZED project. I think anyone with a brain, heart or courage will love them, too. Enjoy!
