Fall fashion preview – 10 trends to get you started

August 16, 2009

We know it’s only August, and, no, we’re not ready for cold weather, but, yes, we are definitely dreaming of fall clothes.

Summer is great, don’t get us wrong. But who wouldn’t choose sumptuous velvets, leathers and knits as their fabrics of choice? We’re fantasizing about wearing some of the top 10 trends for fall from Neiman Marcus:

1. Cozy knits: Think long and chunky and worn with everything from jeans to dresses.

2. Accentuated shoulders: Poufy sleeves and structured shoulders are already celebrity favorites.

3. Accessories with hardware: Metal studs in gold or silver toughen things up a bit.

4. Major black dresses: There’s nothing little about the new black dress. Look for accents such as pleats and ruffles.

5. High-impact jewelry: Statement necklaces are sticking around for fall. Also look for chunky gold bangles, giant cocktail rings and can’t miss earrings.

6. Red: All over the runways, the power color is a must for fall.

7. Leopard: On sweaters, dresses, handbags and shoes. Ree-ow!

8. Leggings: They’re back and absolutely everywhere. Look for zipper and button details, knit fabrics and lace inserts. Wear them to the ankle or under the heel.

9. Motorcycle jackets: Equally hot with a pencil skirt, over a dress or with jeans or slacks, it’s the must-have jacket of the season.

10. Metallic shoes: Go for the gold, silver and bronze. This trend ain’t going anywhere.
