Who should play Barbie?

Barbie, our favorite fashion queen, is poised to go live action, now that Universal has acquired the rights from Mattel to make a movie star out of the doll, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

The producer: Laurence Mark, of Jerry Maguire and Julie & Julia fame.

It’s hard to believe, but Barbie Millicent Roberts has never been adapted into a live role. Will she be a teen hangin’ with Skipper in Malibu? A doctor? A vet? A pilot? A cowgirl? A bride? A princess? Wait! An astronaut! And who on Earth will play Ken? Will she live in a dream house? Drive a convertible? They’ll have to find an afghan hound stage dog!

Oh, this is going to be good.

Now, the must-answer question: Who plays Barbie? We’re guessing casting directors will vote for blond and young (tho you never know). Dakota Fanning doesn’t seem va-va-va-voom enough. Maybe Hayden Panettiere? Too short. Blake Lively could pull it off. Sara Paxton from The Beautiful Life could certainly fit the bill.

Anna Faris, Sienna Miller or Reese Witherspoon could rock an older Barbie.
