New York — Most gals stock their makeup bags with lipstick, mascara — maybe a blush brush or two. But designer Betsey Johnson says she always stashes a Sharpie marker in with her cosmetics.
“I carry a Sharpie in my makeup bag at all times,” she told a small crowd gathered outside the Sharpie booth at New York Fashion Week. “I can’t write with anything else.”
“That’s what I think fashion is about — to do your own thing on your clothes.
Making an appearance to promote the permanent marker brand — which is donating to City of Hope, a breast cancer awareness group (Johnson is a survivor) — she drew her signature scribbles on a T-shirt while charming onlookers.
She also drew “XOX” on her hand. “I like to write on my hand because whatever I write won’t go away for about three days and I can” remember anything,” she says.
As she wrote on the T-shirt she added: “That’s what I think fashion is about — to do your own thing on your clothes.
