NY Fashion Week – Singer Ida Maria talks getting glam at Betsey Johnson fashion show

September 20, 2009

Norwegian rocker Ida Maria
Norwegian rocker Ida Maria is probably best known for her hit single I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked, but she is a fan of actual clothes, especially those by designer Betsey Johnson.

We caught up with her as she was getting her hair teased and sprayed straight up in gravity defying fashion backstage before Johnson’s show.

How’d you end up playing a fashion show?

“Well, this is the first time I’ve been asked and it’s fantastic,” she says. ”The designer, I love her so much personally and her work is just excitable, so I couldn’t be happier. And I definitely would not play on any fashion show, but this is a designer I love so much. And I wear all of her clothes. It’s a big honor.”

Do fans go nuts when they see you?

“I’m a shy person, so I just hide away from the fans.”

How’s life on tour?

“I just rolled out of the tour bus and straight in here,” she says. “It’s funny, because being on tour, it’s the least glamorous thing you can imagine. You’re always filthy and you’re happy just to shower. Then running in here and getting makeup done and stuff … this is the most glamorous I’ve ever been in a tour.”
