Baby weight is so last season. Follow me as I try to get in shape and shed a few pounds following Denver trainer Anne Parker’s TRX Mini Boot Camp.

The colder weather has forced us inside — we’re now doing our workouts at an elementary school gym — and while outside is great, inside ain’t bad, either. I feel like I’m back in my school athlete days (just much, much slower and really, really winded).
Anyway, it’s good to mix things up and that’s what happened this week. Sunday, I did my own long treadmill workout. Monday, at TRX boot camp with Anne Parker, we moved up and down the length of the gym doing kicks, lunges, grapevines and more. The killers? Just try doing these across your living room: bend at the waist, walk your hands out into a plank, walk your feet into your hands and repeat. Next, do bear crawls all the way across and all the way back. They’re just what they sound like, you walk on on all fours. That stuff is hard.
We split into groups, while one did TRX exercises, the other did jumping jacks, push ups and squats. Everyone’s face was red and sweaty once the hour was up.
Tuesday, I did my off-day workout. Wednesday, I thought I had a meeting I had to attend, so I did a workout on my own. Literally 10 minutes after I finished, I found out the meeting was canceled. So, I headed to the gym to get my butt kicked by Anne. We did more crazy exercises, including some awesome circuits we can work into our daily routines.
Thursday, I did a treadmill hill interval workout and I was so busy Friday, I didn’t make time for cardio. Wah-wah. But, I did go to a great Saturday morning workout at a fitness store, where we mixed elliptical intervals with TRX with dumb bells with kettle bells. And I did all of my plank crunches and hamstring curls this time — a far cry from the one I was able to do during week one.
Diet? Decent. Story of my life. I just can’t be perfect on eating. Friday, I had breakfast, lunch and dinner dates. I had a banana-bran muffin at the coffee shop, a cup of soup and side salad at lunch and split an appetizer-size veggie pizza and drank a big beer at dinner. Not horrible, right? I really wanted the giant cheeseburger and fries and could have easily downed four beers, so I guess it could have been worse.
Oh, and I bought a new, fancier scale last weekend. It says I lost almost a pound this week. Not even close to Biggest Loser territory, but real life ain’t life on the ranch.
