We’re trying to spend as much of our holiday shopping dollars locally as we can this year, and the Mile High Business Alliance is aiming to make buying local easy with Buy Local Week.
WHAT: The Mile High Business Alliance’s third annual Buy Local Week kick off event; free admission includes:
- An informal reception with complimentary appetizers, dessert and beverages
- A live auction to jump start the holiday shopping season in a more community-oriented, sustainable way featuring items from Twice as Haute, Polkadot, Elizabeth Lindsay Creations and others
- Release of the 2009 Buy Local Week Shopping Guide, a directory of local events and retailers offering special discounts Nov. 30 through Dec. 6., including Fancy Tiger Clothing, Violet, Oster Jewelers and more.
WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m.
WHERE: Swallow Hill Music Association, 71 East Yale Ave., Denver
Following the event, Swallow Hill Music Association will host a concert with singer-songwriters Cliff Eberhardt and Chris Daniels. (Visit swallowhill.com for concert information and tickets.)
“Shifting just 10 percent of our region’s holiday spending to local companies could generate $3 billion for Colorado’s economy in just two months,” Mickki Langston, Mile High Business Alliance co-founder and executive director, says in a release. “Shopping in locally owned stores keeps money circulating in our community instead of sending it to other states and reduces the environmental impact of shipping long distances.”
