Fitness myth number one: The best way to lose weight is to start running.  FALSE

Starting a running program can be a great way to start feeling healthier,  burn calories and increase your cardiovascular strength.  But, if you are focused on weight loss, then the best way to lose weight is to incorporate high intensity strength training with a cardio interval training program.

If you run for 45 minutes, you will burn calories during the 45 minutes that you are performing the activity.  However, If you do a high intensity circuit training workout with weights and cardio intervals for 25 minutes, you will burn a higher number of calories and will also burn a high number of calories post-exercise, potentially for up to 23 hours following your workout.

That means your metabolism will be running on overdrive following a high intensity circuit workout.  It basically returns to normal following a long slow distance run. So, if you are looking for the most efficient workout for weight loss and fat loss, start doing push ups, walking lunges and squats with short bursts of jumping jacks instead of running a slow four miles and your pants will be loose in no time.
