Be it books, clothes, accessories, gadgets, recipes or toys, if it earns the Oprah Winfrey seal of approval, it’s golden.
You see, when Winfrey talks, consumers listen. And buy. Oh, yes, do they ever buy.
Each year around Thanksgiving, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” features around 20 of the media queen’s favorite things. Back in 2000, Spanx sales went through the roof after being endorsed by Winfrey. Last year, the Kindle quickly sold out after Winfrey offered a $50 off discount code for the e-reader while just a mention of Carol’s Daughter perfume resulted in what’s now a million-dollar company.
But recently, Winfrey’s been busy touting some of her faves on other episodes, as well. Here’s a look at some of Winfrey’s latest top picks in fashion and beauty.
- Cj by Cookie Johnson jeans. “The perfect jeans for real women with real booties,” Winfrey declared on air. “For three days straight, I had on the jeans.” Designed by Cookie Johnson, wife of NBA star Magic Johnson, this premium denim brand is made for curvy bodies.

On her recent “Shoe, Handbag and Accessory Intervention” show, Winfrey gasped when she saw Be & D’s Kan Kan platform sandals. The “car service shoes,” as Winfrey described them, feature a ruffled T-strap and 4 1/2-inch spike heels. And while she didn’t name them “favorites,” these items were approved on the same episode: See by Chloe over-the-knee boots, Cole Haan Air Maggy Ballet slippers in Black Suede and the classic hobo bag by Kenneth Cole Reaction.
- On a gimicky “Favorite Things from the ’60s” episode, Winfrey picked things she would have loved during that decade, which included: A Jackie Kennedy-like Barbie with a bouffant ‘do, the GE Hairsetter that came with nylon rollers in three different sizes and Maybelline mascara. “It was revolutionary,” Oprah said of the mascara. “Now, we just sort of take all of this for granted.”Winfrey’s 2009 “Favorite Things” episode is scheduled to air TK. Some of her 2008 picks, all under $100, included Jo Malone bath oils (especially White Jasmine & Mint and Grapefruit) and philosophy’s hope in a jar moisturizer.
